Product Overview
Product Name
Easy Bake Oven & Snack Center

Target Group
The current Easy Bake Oven packaging suggests that this
product is for ages 8 and up. In the past the company has
gone from solely targeted young girls to targeting both *pictures taken from www.hasbro.com/easybake
young girls and boys. The redesign will focus on marketing
to young girls ages 8-12, the primary age and gender of
those that use the oven.
Brief History

The Easy Bake Oven was introduced as America’s first working toy oven in 1963 by Kenner Products. It was
turquoise and had a fake stove top.

Over the years it evolved with the trends and styles of each time period. In 1969 the oven was avocado green
to match the shag carpet in many homes. In 1978 it was orange, white and brown and resembled the new
invention, the microwave. In 1980 the mom’s of America remodeled their kitchen’s with all white appliances and

Ea
so did easy bake. With the 90’s came the hot pink version that was marketed primarily to girls, and in 2003 the
oven came out with a real meal oven with an updated look that marketed to all genders. In 2006 the oven was
inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

In 2007, Hasbro, the maker of the oven, unfortunately, had to recall just under 1 million of their ovens because
of reports of children putting their fingers and hands in the ovens opening, causing serious burns.

After the recall, Hasbro decided to revert back to their classic Easy Bake Oven and Snack Center version, which
is the current model sold in stores today.

Design Plan
The Big Idea
This product redesign will make the Easy Bake Oven in style again. The current packaging is dull, and it is not in
congruence with the current fashion trends, like the packaging used to be. When walking down the toy aisle, it does not
stand out amongst the brightly colored packaging of the Bratz dolls and the My Littlest Pet Shops that are immensely
popular with the target age group today. This redesign will incorporate the bright colors and sleek styles that are
popular in kitchens and little girls bedrooms around the world.
