Wonders Unit 6 Week 1 Vocabulary

irritating- when someone
becomes angry or impatient.
ancestors- are people from whom
one is descended.
despised- means looked down on
as worthless, or scorned.
endurance- is the power to put up
with hardships or difficulties.
forfeit- means to lose or have to
give up because of some fault,
accident, or mistake.
honor- means to show or feel
great respect for a person or thing.
intensity- means having or
showing strong feeling, purpose, or
effort.
retreated- means to have
withdrawn or moved back.

Weekly Skills
Comprehension- Reread - to go back
over and read again.
Comprehension skill- Theme- The
theme of the story is the overall
message or lesson that an author
wants to communicate.
Genre- Historical Fiction- has
realistic characters, events, and
settings. It is set in the past and
includes literary element, such as
dialogue.
Vocabulary- Denotation -is the literal
definition of a word that you would find
in the dictionary. Connotation -is the
feeling of a word or the effect that it
has on the reader.
