Survey Says Outreach and Resources for All


Womens Resource Center flips the script by asking what the students think about its
services.
KENNESAW, Ga. (Ar!l "#, "#$%& Game shows seem to find the most random
people to answer questions to represent a particular group or demographic. While it may
yield unbiased results, viewers at home are left wondering Who in the world would say
that?
Well, we at the Womens !esource and "nterpersonal #iolence $revention %enter at
&ennesaw 'tate (niversity )&'(*, wanted you, the students who may or may not +now
about us, to tell the %enter about its services. With a nod to ,amily ,eud, we as+ed -..
students to tell us their thoughts and opinions. We also qui//ed countless others about
what the campus consensus deemed the most important things to +now about the %enter.
0ame one of the main benefits the %enter offers. 'urvey says and most students agreed
that the top benefit was receiving help in abusive and or unconducive relationships and
situations.
Well since the title says 1Womens !esource and "nterpersonal #iolence $revention,
"m guessing it helps people who are hurt or abused, says 2anelle $earcey, a senior here
at &'(. 3hats a no4brainer.
'ome questions and answers werent so clear4cut, which surprised many &'( students.
,or e5ample, students had a hard time listing several demographics and groups that have
access to the %enter. Women, victims of rape and abuse and the 6G73"8 community
were the obvious answer for students. 9et, simple answers li+e residents, men, se5ually4
active students, volunteers and departments on4campus were prevalent, too.
9eah guys could go there as well, says 2oe !amire/, a freshman at &'(. " participated
in the Green :ot %ampaign 3raining about bystander empowerment with my fraternity.
3he %enter offers an array of help and services that arent limited to specific genders.
3he survey says that the %enter ;ust helps people. Well, lets ;ust tal+ about the fact that
its a real %enter, said <acy %ampbell, a ;unior here &'(. "ts located in &ennesaw
=all. $lus, its a place for anybody to come, rela5, find out information and even sign4up
for wor+shops and demonstrations.

>ne thing is for sure &'( students +new that the %enter offers an array of services. 3he
catch was did they +now how to access those services and resources.
9ou have to be referred by someone, says ?nthony $alento, a &'( freshman, along
with many other respondents. 'ince it deals with such confidential matters, it has to be
top4secret.
>thers thought differently. 3he %enter is open to any and everybody, says &ayla
7ennett, a &'( sophomore. "m pretty sure you can be referred to them, along with
going there in person.
With so many opinions and conclusions drawn, who can really determine the truth and
facts about the Womens !esource and "nterpersonal #iolence $revention %enter? :ont
waste time drumming up more conclusions and find out the truth for yourself. #isit the
