The Printing System Installer Customization Wizard enables an administrator to customize the
printing system installer that comes with the product by presetting the options for installation in a
response file. The customized installer is then ready for silent unattended installation by end users.
! sample batch file "Install.bat" is located in the directory with the customized printing system
installer. It can be used as is or modified with run time customizations e#plained later in this
document.
! log file is written to the Windows$ directory when customized printing system installer is created.
The Windows$ directory is the directory where Windows was originally installed on the system.
The log file is the shortened name of the product with an .ini file e#tension. %or e#ample&

The same log file is created on the end user"s system when they install using the customized
printing system installer.
*og files are in ,nglish only.
$#%E& This application uses -ersion ../ of the 0icrosoft Windows Installer. If your system does
not ha1e 1ersion ../ installed you must restart your system after running this application.
To chec2 the 1ersion number run msie#ec.e#e in the Windows$3system directory.
,nd users who install the customized printing system installer must also restart their computers if
they do not ha1e 1ersion ../ of the 0icrosoft Windows Installer.

changing the settings in the response file.
$#%E& -alidation of 1alues does not occur during customization. This enables a networ2
administrator to create the installer without reAuiring that the end user be on the same
networ2 or en1ironment as the administrator.

When you perform a customized installation of the printing system the batch file is created in the
same directory as the customized printing system installer. If left unmodified it is automatically used
during a custom installation to install the printing system with default settings.
The file name of the batch file is install.bat. The file can either be used to install the customized
printing system installer using default settings or settings can be modified as described below.
The install.bat file contains the following command line&
setup.e#e =s =*(((( =1B=An C,SP;<S,DEresponse fileFB
These settings can be modified and commands may be added or remo1ed from the command line.
,ach forward slash 6=7 mar2s the beginning of a new setting within the command line. The settings
must appear e#actly in the order shown in the e#ample abo1e.
?ialog bo#es appear on the screen to accommodate reboot messages and to as2 the user to
connect the printer.
The settings and their functions are described below.

The printing system installer can be customized by changing settings in the response file.
! response file named response.ini is located in the directory where the customized installer
created was created. The installer uses the settings found under the IInstaller SettingsJ IPort
SettingsJ and I%eaturesJ tags. The I),*P8*ong%eature<amesJ tag is pro1ided to help you
determine which short feature name under I%eaturesJ to set.
The settings must not be combined in a single lineK rather each setting occupies a line. %or

where (((( is the number of the )P *aser+et product.
The response file uses the following synta# for the settings&
S,TTI<LD1alue
The "setting" should be in uppercase. The "1alue" is case8sensiti1e. The setting is followed by an
eAual sign and then the 1alue with no space on either side of the eAual sign.
$#%E& These settings are written to the response.ini file when the customized installer is created.
Mou can change the 1alues but do not change the S,TTI<L names. They are specific to
each product.
This section pro1ides details about the settings that can be changed in the response file.
%-e .Port &ettings/ tag
Set only one of the following three types of ports in the response file&

New TCP/IP and IPX network ports
$#%E& Mou need to o1erride only the settings that change for each install.
First specify the type of networ2 port you want to create&
<WNP;CTDIP 6to setup a new TCP=IP port7
<WNP;CTDIP> 6to setup a new IP> port7
Second use one of the following settings to specify how to identify the de1ice. The printer
configuration 6test7 page should ha1e these 1alues.
4 IPDEip addressF
where Eip addressF is the TCP=IP address of the de1ice in the G.G.G.G TCP=IP format
4 IPN);STDEip hostnameF
where Eip hostnameF is the IP hostname of the de1ice7. %or e#ample&

$#%E& :e sure to include the "mycompany.com" portion of the hostname.
4 IP>DEip# addressF

4 )WDEhardware addressF
where Ehardware addressF consists of the 1. alphanumeric characters of the de1ice"s
hardware address
Third if you want to configure a new or reset +etdirect port you must be searching by )ardware
address 6abo1e7. Mou must also set the following three settings. 6These settings are ignored if the
+etdirect de1ice is already configured.7
4 IPDEip addressF
where Eip addressF is the G.G.G.G format7
4 IPNS9:<,TDEip addressF
4 IPNL!T,W!MDEip addressF
The two settings that follow are not needed by most TCP=IP users. If your system reAuires a S<0P
Community <ame or +etdirect password enter them in these settings. These settings probably do
not need to change if you ha1e already set them in the installer.
4 S<0PDES<0PStringF
where ES<0PString F is the string for the S<0P community name.
4 +?P!SSDEPasswordF
where EPassword F is the string for the +etdirect password.
Fourth choose either to use a default port name or specify a port name. The default port name is
the printer model with a uniAue copy number appended. If you choose to use the default port name
use&
4 ?,%NP;CTDM 6use the default port name7
If you choose ?,%NP;CTDM then you do not need to enter a port name. If howe1er you choose to
specify a port name use&

$#%E& If only one dri1er is to be installed the share name should not e#ceed 1. characters in
order to allow Windows QP Q8 and 0e clients to access it. If more than one dri1er is to be
installed a share is created for each dri1er by appending the dri1er name to the share
