The novel “Two Weeks with the Queen”

is a novel that focuses on

tolerance and understanding. Discuss.
Two Weeks with the Queen written by Morris Gleitzman, is
a novel based on a young boy, Colin Mudford, who has to
deal with the fact that his brother Luke has cancer and
Colin decides he is going to cure him. Through Colin’s
story this inspiring novel shows the themes
Understanding, Tolerance and also acceptance.

In Two Weeks with the Queen tolerance is on of the major

themes. When Colin’s mum and dad discussed going to
England to have a break from things, Colin didn’t really
like the idea but he tolerated it and left with no complaint.
Finding the world’s greatest doctor .Tolerating this wasn’t
so easy for Colin but he did show it. Colin also shows
tolerance is when Colin tolerates Alistair being a sook.
When Colin goes to jump over the Buckingham Palace,
Alistair gets scared and starts to sook. But Colin tolerates
it and keeps to his plan. This clearly shows Colin used the
theme tolerance.

Another important theme in this novel is understanding.

Understanding Luke’s disease is difficult for Colin because
he didn’t know what cancer was capable of. But
everything changed when he went to England. He met a
man named Ted and another man named Griff. These two
friends were going through similar issues to Colin and they
managed to help Colin understand his situation.
Understanding is what Colin achieved in his novel and is
the reason it is a major theme.
Another highlighted theme that must not be forgotten in
this novel is Acceptance. Colin accepting that Luke will
eventually die in the end is very mature of him. He shows
this after spending time with Ted and Griff. When Griff
died Colin could see how much time he needed to spend
time with Luke instead of wasting time finding and cure.
Acceptance shouldn’t be forgotten in the themes as
acceptance helped Colin in the process of understanding.
Overall, this novel ‘Two Weeks with the Queen’ is a
fantastic novel which clearly shows Colin using Tolerance,
understanding and acceptance. Each time Colin faces a
new obstacle Colin would use one of the main themes to
help him. For example the time he tolerated going to
England even though he didn’t want to. Therefore
Understanding, tolerance and acceptance are the main
themes in this novel.
