1. Read non-fiction book (Sharks) a. Ask what he learned b. Ask questions about sharks and see if we can find the answers in the book 2. Do a Working With Words activity (Making Words) a. Give him 5 consonant cards and 2 vowel cards b. Make a 3 letter word that he already knows (car) c. Change the consonant t to n (can) d. Make a 4 letter word by adding the vowel e to the end (cane) and notice the different sound the vowel makes e. Change your letters to spell race f. Have him make other words g. Make the word scar and add an e to the end (scare) h. Make the word crate 3. Make 2 words with the cards and write a sentence or 2 with both of those words in them 4. Read a Bernstein Bears, Curious George, or Dr. Seuss book and talk about the book 5. Do another Working With Words activity (Guess the Covered Word) a. Read the first sentence together and have him write down 3 or 5 words he thinks the covered word could be b. Reveal the first letter by pulling off the sticky note c. Have him cross off his guesses that dont start with this letter and make other guesses if he has them d. Reveal the rest of the word and give a sticker if his guess was correct e.
