Dear West Manheim Families,

We are writing to inform you that on Friday, May 23, 2014, the school district will be conducting an evacuation drill at
the West Manheim Elementary School. As part of our ongoing expectations that we have for student and staff safety,
our administrators and the police, fire, and emergency services have been reviewing all of our schools safety plans this
year to ensure that we have accounted for all possible situations. Therefore, we are conducting a full-scale evacuation
drill at one of our school buildings, and we have chosen West Manheim Elementary this year.

Please know that area police cars and emergency vehicles will be at West Manheim. Students and teachers will be
evacuated to the middle school, while the fire, police, and emergency personnel participate in a drill at the school. During
the time of the drill, traffic may be interrupted, but there will be no danger to anyone involved. The press may be at the
site, as well. It is just a drill, and we are doing this to make sure we have plans in place to protect our students and
staff in the event of a real crisis.

As part of the drill, we are extending an invitation to the parents of 4
th
and 5
th
graders to participate in our parent-child
reunification process. The parent-child reunification process is the orderly and efficient process of reuniting children
with their parents in response to a school-related emergency or crisis. We want to practice this process so that in case of
any real crisis, we have a plan in place. If you choose to volunteer, you will be contacted via our School Messenger
System that an evacuation has occurred at West Manheim and you should report to Emory H. Markle Intermediate School
at 225 Bowman Road to pick up your child/children. As part of this parent-child reunification process, you must
present a photo ID at the time of pick up. If you help us by volunteering to be part of this process, when you pick up
your child/children, they will be excused from returning to the school and may go home early with you.

Following completion of the drill, teachers and those students not participating in the re-unification process will return to
the school building to be dismissed at the end of the school day.

We are quite grateful for the help of the area police, fire, and emergency services who continually work with us for the
benefit of our children. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call Mr. Cromer, Principal, West Manheim
Elementary School, or Barbara Rupp, Superintendent. As always, thank you for your support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Brian M. Cromer, Principal
