The Reality of Tasbeeh

The Quraan and hadeeth are replete with encouragement to make tasbeeh. The different duaas that are
prescribed for different times of the day contain tasbeeh. !hen "abi #sallallahu alaihi wasallam$ was
approaching the end of his worldly life% &llah Taala instructed him in 'urah "asr to recite tasbeeh. The
hadeeth also recommends the recitation of the surahs that start with tasbeeh when going to bed.
'o what does tasbeeh mean and what does it entail? (t means that we declare the purity of &llah Taala.
)owe*er% what are we declaring that )e is pure from? There are basically two things: #+$ ,ependence.
&llah Taala is totally independent. -n the other hand% the creation depends on others. !e should ha*e
the feeling of dependence that we are always in need. The wealthy re.uire the poor and the poor re.uire
the wealthy. &t no point can one claim that he is totally independent. !hen one e/presses his
independence% then &llah Taala will show him how weak and dependant he is. #0$ ,eclaring that &llah
Taala is pure and free from the limits of time and place. This means that )e has direct authority and
immediate power. !e may ha*e authority and power% but it is limited and indirect.
