Lesson of the Moth

The lesson learned from the moth is to live life recklessly and as carefree as possible, but in
reality, living life recklessly and too carefree without concern for safety is anything but appropriate. Being
too jovial can mislead people when theyre making important decisions in life. The TB article states
that, ...the reward system can out muscle the master planner. That can lead to poor decisions.(4) When
people let their breezy attitude take over, they dont really think about the risks they take. An example of
this is in The Lesson of the Moth, the moth is willingly risking his life to get a thrill, And we know that if
we get too close it will kill us, but what does that matter.(S3) Studies have shown that risk taking is
important for development(TB), but for those with reckless behaviors, certain risks arent helpful for
development at all. Risks like stealing and fighting can end with serious consequences that dont allow
people to gain anything whatsoever. Additionally, recklessness can cause people to perform
dangerous actions. Sometimes risky desires can be deadly.(1) as stated from the WR article. In The
Lesson of the Moth, the moth describes his reckless life, So we wad all our life up into one little roll and
then we shoot the roll. That is what life is for.(S3) Some people who take risks say that they dont
perceive the risks as risky(WR), however, when doing these things, they have to take into account all
angles of the effects of the risk. If they dont, the effects can end up not being what they expected and
leaving them with regret for their actions. The effects of living a life like this can be extreme injuries
and or death. This is proven in the WR article, ...excessive risk-taking can significantly lower ones life
expectancy.(1) The poem also supports this by saying, He [moth] went and immolated himself on a
patent cigar lighter.(S4) In conclusion, living riskily where life is put in danger, is not an appropriate life to
live.
