THE VIKING NEWSPAPER

Your challenge is to create the front page of a Viking Newspaper.

You can develop your newspaper either on your device or on a piece
of paper.
You will need to include:
The Title of your newspaper, e.g. Canberras newspaper is
called The Canberra Times
The motto of the paper, e.g. The Canberra Times motto used
to be To serve the nations capital and through it, the Nation.
The date (Hint: make sure your date lines up with the headline
story)
A Headline Story. This story will be on the days main news.
Choose from one of the following topics
o Leif Erikson reaches America,
o Erik the Red reaches Greenland, or
o Ragnor Lodbrok raids Paris
This story will include
- a headline
- a by line
- a photo
- the main point of the story appears in the first
paragraph
- more details are given in the following paragraphs
(If space is tight, later paragraphs can be deleted
without losing the sense of the news story.)
One or two small articles about the news, e.g. funeral at
Oseberg. (You might like to choose areas where you feel you
need to revise or where you would like to know more)
You might also like to include other items such as:
A See Inside Strip of 3 items of interest to be found inside the
paper. (You dont have to write these articles, just have a
picture, heading and page number for each one)
Vox Popoli about a current issue, e.g. Recently The Canberra
Times asked people on the street, Should parking in the
Parliamentary Triangle be free? One sentence opinions from
different people can be totally opposite and sometimes can be
very funny.
Weather Synopsis
Other things the Vikings might need to know quickly, e.g. tides
A few small advertisements
Anything else you may think is relevant to the front page of
your Viking newspaper

You will need to decide on
o the Tone of your newspaper, e.g. The Canberra
Times vs The Telegraph
o Layout
- the layout should be pleasing to the eye.
- the page should not be too crowded but not have
too much blank space either
o a suitable Style - typeface and font size matter.
o Editing Corrections and what to put in and what to
leave out you only have one page and probably
you will not be able to fit in everything you would
like.
You are the editor, and you get to choose what your Viking audience
should read!
