According to FEWA standard and other standards ,use of Cu cable is avoided not because of
technical reason, it is because of commercial reason. FEWA dont invest in 3C 240 sq mm Cu
Cable and dont install outgoing feeders which connects switching station to consumer. However, AGPL is studying possibility and cost impact to use 3C 240 sqq mm Cu cable from main 33kV substation to primary switching station.
Originally, we considered to lay cable for primary distribution as and when required. Since the cable is available with Marjan Island LLC , we are exploring possibility to use it in primary distribution circuit.
I will come back once my team finish the exercise. Please note that usage of cable from primary to secondary switching station is not big length.
Point 5 we know that ADWEA is using Cu cable, however it is only in special cases for bulk customers as radial feeder and in some of primary distribution centers which dont have big enough corridor for multiple Al cables. In our case at Marjan, we dont have such space constraint.
