Activity #1 o First I will start with a flannel board song. I will have different colored boat flannel pieces and place one on the board. We will sing, So many boats on the deep blue sea what color boat does (childs name) see. The child will then say the color of the boat on the board.
o I chose this activity because I believe it will be a good way to get the children involved and engaged in circle time as we use boats to practice color recognition.
Activity #2 o Next, I will read the book I Love Boats.
o I chose this activity because it is a book that will introduce the children to many kinds of boats and what the boats are used for.
Activity #3 o Next, I will introduce the small group activity Ramp Race. I will show the children the ramps and vehicles we will be using for this activity and demonstrate how we will be using these objects in our groups. I will have the children predict which vehicle they think will win and race them down the ramps to see if their predictions were right.
o I chose this activity because I want the children to get an idea of what we will be doing during small group time and how to use the materials once they get there.
Transition Activity o Finally, I will end my circle time and transition the children by having the children split up into two groups. One group will come with me to do the small group activity while the other group tells another teacher what they will work on during free choice time. o I chose this transition activity because I believe it will be a good way to smoothly transition to the next activity. The children will know what activity they will be doing next and will have an idea of how to use the materials when they get there.
