In engineering displacement is a distance between an initial position and a final position.

If i pick up a book from the floor and place

it on the table i can say the displacemnet of the book is 30 inches( the height if the table top to the floor).

Deflection is the displacement caused by a load. A diving board deflects downward when you walk to the end of it. Your weight(load)
causes the diving board to displace downward while you stand on the end. This displacement is maintained as long as the load is
applied, once you jump off the load is removed and the board returns to it initial position
