31 Mar 2012 WiMAX Access Point Software Release Notes 6
Special notes
This WiMAX Access Point Software release contains the following special notes:
Upgrade pre-check
An upgrade pre-check script and accompanying user guide are available in the WMX4.0 Release
Binder.
Alarm card temperature
The ability to read the temperature on the alarm card from the active controller has been added to
MotShell. This is only available on the BCU1 platform. The command is ac temp.
4x Modem
The 2x modem hardware has two separate processors, each with a single core. The 4x modem
hardware has two newer processors, each with 2 cores, so the 4x Modem has a total of 4 cores. Sector
assignments are spread evenly between the two processors.

Each core (0,1) for each processor (BHP, OHP) has an IP address. The IP address is as follows (where
x is the card slot number 4 or 5):

144.190.x.1 - BHP 0 - MAC1
144.190.x.2 - BHP 1 - SCH1
144.190.x.3 - OHP 0 - MAC2
144.190.x.4 - OHP 1 - SCH2
Static load management timer for re-directed re-entry
The wmanBtsGenConfigParm4 parameter defines the AP internal timer within which if the SLM re-
directed MS returned to the original carrier, the AP will allow the MS to re-enter the network in the
original carrier. The values correspond to:

Integer, Range is 5 60 seconds
Default: 10 seconds

There is no customer procedure for changing this parameter, please contact NewNet for assistance.
DAP DUO 2Tx/4Rx
This feature makes it a configurable option to switch between 2Tx and 4Tx DAP DUO.
The wmanBtsDapDuoNumTx parameter (via EMS) controls the status of the DAP DUO 2Tx/4Rx
feature. The values correspond to:

0 = 4Tx / 4Rx (this is the default value)
1 = 2Tx / 4Rx

NOTE The wmanBtsGenConfigParm3 parameter is no longer used for this feature.

Point of Sale
Point of Sale (PoS) performance improvements are seen when some capacity optimizing
functionalities are disabled. An optional TAM algorithm is available that moves TAM more slowly to
the desired packet error rate (PER).

The wmanBtsGenConfigParm1 parameter controls the optional TAM algorithm:
0 = No change to TAM scoring (default value)
1 = DL TAM score will move "slowly" resulting in conservative DL MCS selection

There is no customer procedure for changing this parameter, please contact NewNet for assistance.
Total maximum bandwidth VSA (VSA 60) at the AAA
Please refer to Bulletin wimax_g_ap_038 for further details.
Upgrade procedure, Site commissioning, AP diagnostics
Please refer to the AP Site Installation Procedures document for additional details.
Calibration Procedures
Please refer to the AP Site Installation Procedures document for additional details.
Debugging information collection
Site Controller Resource Utilization

CPU Utilization:
vmst at 1 2
The bottom line will show CPU utilization for User Space (us), Kernel Space (sy), and Idle (id)
percentage utilization over the last second.

t op
Will show the same information, but is difficult to use on the console because the refresh rate
over serial is rather slow.

Memory Utilization:
Fr ee or cat / pr oc/ memi nf o
Will display the memory utilization information.

Also, top - p <PI D>will display the memory utilization and CPU utilization for a given task.
Modem Resource Utilization

CPU Utilization (on either BHP OR OHP; both processors are measured individually):
ker n_pr i nt _cpu_ut i l
Memory Utilization (on either BHP OR OHP; both processors are measured individually):
memShow

The command checkStack can also be used to print out the stack utilization of all tasks.

APSNAP
The apsnap utility is used to collect information during a problem. It currently tars up the debug logs
as well as some system information.

To use it, type /usr/app/bin/apsnap from the site controllers tty.

For example:

r oot @unknown: / > / usr / app/ bi n/ apsnap
apsnap col l ect i ng t o / t mp - Wed J an 26 06: 29: 39 GMT 2000
Phase 1 - Gener al Syst emI nf o . . .
Phase 2 - Syst emLogFi l es . . .
Phase 3 - AP l ogs . . .
apsnap col l ect i on compl et e - Wed J an 26 06: 29: 42 GMT 2000
Phase 4 - Cr eat i ng apsnap t ar f i l e . . .
Phase 5 - Cr eat ed apsnap t ar f i l e / t mp/ apsnap. 0126000629. t gz

NOTE The apsnap.*.tgz file should be removed after the transfer as leaving it on the AP
may lead to memory issues and site resets if apsnap files residing on the AP fill up
available space.

Limitations
This WiMAX Access Point Software release contains the following limitations:
Backhaul Configurations
The supported backhaul configuration for BCUI is: 100MBits (Aggregation)
Configured on both the access point and switch
The switch should be configured with PortFast on
Utilize backhaul port A
