To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing a reference letter for Jacqueline Orr, currently a student at The University of
Michigan. This summer I had the opportunity to work with Jacqueline when she
volunteered as a tutor for the University of Michigan School of Educations Elementary
Mathematics Lab, for which I was the Undergraduate Preceptor.

One of the first things I observed about Jacqueline as she worked each day with her
student was her positive attitude and willingness to get to know her student. Jacqueline
formed a strong bond with her student as she not only got to know her interests, but what
challenges and supports she needed in mathematics.

As soon as Jacqueline informally assessed her student each day, she quickly customized
her lesson plans for the session. Jacqueline realized that her student needed more of a
challenge in some areas, while other areas needed much more support. Jacqueline was
able to balance these needs along with building a relationship of trust with her student to
create productive and genuine tutoring sessions.

Having Jacqueline as this students tutor and role-model played a key part in the program
being a success for her student, as well as her student having a more positive outlook on
mathematics. After having worked with Jacqueline, I am confident she will be an asset to
future students and academic communities.
