Tennis for Two was a game known as one of the early games that used a graphical display like OXO. The creator used the technology previously used to cal- culate a ballistc missiles trajectory to make the angles for tennis. This was an efect of the CRTAD be- cause it used the similar analog control scheme with a single buton and a knob. It also fourished for a bit because of the in- trigue in America over the idea that was introduced way back with the CRTAD. May 5, 1951 - Nim: The NIMROD computer was a computer built specially for games of Nim, a mathematcal strategy game. It was signifcant for being a computer dedicated to a single game. This is an efect of the CRTAD because the CRTAD proved that, not only was it possible to create amusing devices with elec- tricity, but it also showed that it could garner a signifcant amount of public interest, thus making fu-
January 25, 1947 - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device: The Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device (CRTAD) was an interactve elec- tronic game that was created from only analog components. It was a simple game that used knobs to aim a crosshair at an airplane and fre before a certain amount of tme. This was pivotal because it was the frst known interactve electronic game created. With its creaton, people saw the potental behind using electronics for en- tertainment. Prior to this, electronics were used for more practcal things. Afer this, more impractcal, yet fun, uses for electronic devices surfaced. 1906 - Distncton of Electronics: Lee De Forest invented the triode, which was what initally distnguished electron- ics from other electrical com- ponents. Before this, things were only electrical/not elec- tronic. This was a cause of the CRTAD because it set in mo- ton the creaton of many elec- tronic devices. A fow of useful inventons emerged afer this, many used electronic compo- nents, including the CRTAD. 1952 - OXO / Noughts and Crosses: This was a program made for a computer with an electronic graphical display (the frst of its kind to use one). Also known as tc-tac-toe, this was a simple game, yet it implemented programming unlike its predecessors. This is an efect of the CRTAD because it fol- lowed in the footsteps of the CRTAD by taking an al- ready existng thing and turning it into an electronic game. Before this, tc-tac-toe was only a pen-and- paper game, just like shootng down an airplane was only something that one did in real life before. Both were turned into electronic games though. 1939 -1945 - World War 2: This was the second world war, which was a war on a global scale. It was the most deadly war in history. It was also the frst war in which a nucle- ar atack was used. This was a cause of the CRTAD because the CRTAD was a game which centered around the idea of shootng down a plane. This idea obviously came from the very recent war. It is logical to assume that this is subcon- sciously a response to the idea of the wara type of relief. 1930s - The Radio Carries People through the 1930s: During, and afer, the Great Depression, many people relied on the radio to feel like part of the general American public. It helped them feel united and like they were all on the same page. This was a cause of the CRTAD because the CRTAD was also a device made out of electronic components. Seeing that an electronic device could be so benefcial to the American people in- creased the likeliness of future electronic inven- tons being made, like the CRTAD. This is because potental was notced.
