A Humble Appeal to Sikh Community

Grand Canyon Zone Designated as the Host for summer 2016,
International Hemkunt Speech and Kirtan Darbar Competition

It is our pleasure to inform the local Sikh community that the Grand Canyon Zone, comprising of all
the Arizonas Gurdwaras, has been designated to host 2016 International Hemkunt Speech & Kirtan
Darbar Competition for the summer of 2016. Our Arizona Sikh children have been attending this
annual event for several years, hosted in turn by one of the 22 participant zones. Several Sikh families
from England, Canada and U.S.A attend this great event with their children. In summer of 2013, about
750 Sikhs including children and adults attended the program in Washington D.C. that was one of the
best and biggest ever.
The attending families pay for their own airfares and hotel expenses while the host Sikh community
bears expenses for meals, banquet, transportation to and from hotel to Gurdwara Sahibs and half a day
of outing with total expense running to 100,000 dollars.
To make it happen, about 26 Sevadars assembled recently and collectively decided to host this event.
They felt that Arizona Sikh Community is prosperous and vibrant enough to undertake this noble
obligation to encourage Sikhi among our children.
Yet, such a huge undertaking cannot be possible without full support of the entire Sikh community; for,
not only it requires significant funds but about 20-30 committed volunteers. While the event is two and
half years away, given the expenses, fundraising needs to start now. To make it easier for the Sangat
members to donate, a separate Tax-deductible Saving sub-account has been established under Dr. J.S.
Saini Charitable Foundation.
Therefore, we are humbly requesting to entire Sikh Community to help out so as to fulfill Grand
Canyon Zones obligation in hosting this International event in the best possible way.
