Calm before the storm

An Allied view of the war

All is well in the Land of the Free. Since the decisive defeat of the Soviets and the
death of Stalin years ago, Europe has been rebuilt. The Americans have joined the Allied
Alliance and have savored the fruits of freedom apple pie, baseball, and amber waves of
grain. Allied intelligence operations, ever wary of the !ussian threat since the war, have
installed a puppet dictator in !ussia "eneral !omanov, head of the harmless #orld
Socialist Alliance.
The $.S. %epartment of %efense thin&s little of a civil war that suddenly brea&s
out in 'e(ico. For a long time, communist factions have stirred up trouble in the
northern region, and it)s considered routine when !omanov)s forces move in to *uell the
unrest and restore order to their fellow #SA member country.
+ut strange things start happening to unsettle the complacent $.S. empire. Soon,
the country)s early, warning defense system shuts down. -urrying to diagnose the
problem, The .entagon doesn)t suspect !omanov might be the culprit until news reports
begin tric&ling in. These reports tell of !ussian troops spilling into Te(as, /ew 0or& and
1alifornia and establishing mysterious beacons at their gradually encroaching outposts.
1ivilians report cases of severe headaches and numbness, and those municipalities
nearest the beacons relate that some citi2ens are falling into a 2ombie,li&e state of
submission. There are even reports of American civilians ta&ing up arms along with the
Soviet troops, forsa&ing their homeland for the 'other !ussia.
The .resident immediately declares war against the !ussian army. The .entagon
moves for a decisive, contained nuclear stri&e to destroy the central base. The red phone
rings in the #ar !oom. The Secretary of #ar issues the final order. The button is pressed.
/othing happens.
America)s nuclear missiles sit useless in their silos. +y now, intelligence sources
confirm the worst suspicions !omanov has orchestrated a stri&e against the $.S., using
the most mysterious ,, and terrifying ,, technology to date psychically, enhanced troops
whose minds are as deadly as their A3,45s. Further reports verge on the fantastic. "iant
s*uids have attac&ed &ey $.S. battlecruisers off the 1alifornia coast. 6ombie,li&e cows,
laden with high, tech e(plosive devices, are converging en masse on the Alamo Air Force
+ase in Te(as.
!allying the allies and its own Army and Air Force ,, as well as a few
technological marvels of its own ,, the $.S. prepares to fight a war that will determine the
fate of the country Stars and Stripes forever, or the hammer and sic&le flying, wic&edly
triumphant, over $.S. soil7
