Community Engagement Project Assessment

Building on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed via a community based work
experience in first semester, you will be required to construct an action plan portfolio. You will be
given 3 periods of class time over the next two weeks to work on your assignment, however, it is
expected that the majority of the assignment is completed for homework. The projects to choose
from include:
World Environmental Day
2014 Floods in Bosnia-Herzegovina
NAIDOC week
Human Rights Day
A program of your choice may be selected in consultation with your teacher.
Your assignment must be typed up in the appropriate document format and be handed in as a
stapled hard copy. All of the following pieces of work must be submitted as one document on the
due date.
1. Description: 250-300 word description of your organisation, their role in the community and
importance the particular program you have chosen in supporting the wellbeing of others.

2. Action Plan: Identify and discuss three potential student led activities which could raise
awareness or funds for your chosen organisation. Responses should be approximately 400
words each, 1200 total. Each activity outlined should:
a. Have a distinct name
b. Identify if either funds and/or awareness is being raised.
c. Brief description of the activity, materials or equipment needed, time frame to be
completed in and how the activity will be led (student run, teachers and students,
members from the organisation present etc.)
d. Positives and negatives (pros and cons) of each activity listed. These should be
supported by similar examples of school events you have researched.

3. Reflection: After conducting your research and writing an action plan write a reflection on
what you have learnt about: Civics and citizenship on a global scale, project you have
selected and your self during this 2 week program. Your response should be well structured,
including an introduction and conclusion, and approximately 300-400 words in length. A
bibliography of any websites, books, pamphlets etc. you have used during your assignment
should be attached on a new page as evidence of research.
