Artist Statement

This artistic piece represents my thesis, which is: According to Al Qaeda and Osama bin
Laden, the United States arrogance, religious intolerance and excessive military
involvement fueled Al Qaedas anger and warranted their attack on September 11
th
of
2001.

The two flags at the top of my board are the United States flag and Al Qaedas flag.
Around each of the flags are characteristics that that group of people showed or acted
towards the other group. The United States showed arrogance, intolerance and excessive
military involvement while Al Qaeda showed violence, hatred, and terrorism. All of these
characteristics lead to the day of 9/11. Although minor events happened before 9/11, I
think the moment of the planes crashing into the twin towers is a very powerful picture in
many peoples heads. The plane headed toward the twin towers has a quote hanging from
it that I find to be very powerful. The quote hanging from the plane is also symbolic
because the anger that Al Qaeda had was carried in the planes that were hijacked. The
towers and plane are both black to represent darkness, because this day was the beginning
of a dark time for our country.
