Parish Sports Fiesta

Loreen Fernandes

November 11, 2009

The much anticipated Parish Sports Fiesta took off to a flying start with the
inauguration by our Parish Priest, Fr. Blany Pinto, at 3.00 pm on Saturday,
November 7, 2009. Members of the various small Christian communities of the
parish depicted relevant themes through appropriate attire, choice of mascot and
the use of placards during the march past.

Inter-community tournaments covering all age-groups were held. Indoor games like
chess (open to all age groups; carom (seniors) and outdoor games that included box
cricket (children), throw ball (women) and rink football (men) were organized.

The entire programme was concluded with the closing ceremony on Sunday
evening. During the closing ceremony - trophies, cups and cash prizes for winners
at the community level and at the individual level for outstanding performance were
distributed. Don Bosco I community was the proud recipient of the winners’ trophy
for the overall performance.

The sports fiesta aims at bringing together all the members of the parish, which is
geographically widespread. Modeled on the initiative of Don Bosco to foster
togetherness through sports, the tournaments were eagerly looked forward to by
one and all.

We are grateful to Fr Edwin Colaco and the members of the cultural cell and the
others who teamed with him for providing yet another avenue for us to enjoy the
Don Bosco way.
