Clarion Hospital to Host Bipolar Awareness Day April 7
CLARION, Pa. Clarion Hospital officials have announced they will host a Bipolar Awareness Day on Monday April 7 from 10 a.m. 4p.m. The event runs at Clarion Hospital, One Hospital Drive, in Clarion. It is free to the public. Activities will include 30-minute seminars to learn more about the symptoms of bipolar disorder and its impact on society, free and confidential mental health screenings, a booth with free books and DVDs, along with counseling sessions for those suffering from bipolar disorder or mental illness. Bipolar disorder, characterized by extreme shifts in mood, energy, and functioning, bipolar disorder is a chronic condition and generally requires life-long treatment. With accurate diagnosis and treatment, people with bipolar disorder have high treatment success rates, said Dr. Kasey Pickett, NAMI Bipolar Specialist. Essential components of the treatment process for people living with bipolar disorder include medication, psychotherapy, support groups, and education about the illness. Bipolar Disorder Awareness Day was created by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to increase awareness of bipolar disorder, promote early detection and accurate diagnosis, reduce stigma, and minimize the devastating !"#$% '()* +(,(-*( impact on the 2.3 million Americans presently affected by the disorder.
