What is free trade?
The unrestricted purchase and sale of goods and
services between countries without the imposition of
constraints such as tariffs, duties and quotas.
Our team is for free trade as it is a win-win
proposition. It enables nations to focus on their core
competitive advantages, thereby maximizing
economic output and fostering income growth for
their citizens.
Strengths of free trade
Free trade enables nations to concentrate their
efforts on manufacturing products or providing
services where they have a distinct comparative
advantage according to the theory first espoused by
economist David Ricardo two centuries ago.

In Economist 1776 Adam Smith stated, "If a foreign
country can supply us with a commodity cheaper
than we ourselves can make it, better buy it of them
with some part of the produce of our own industry,
employed in a way in which we have some
advantage.

In the Book, Termites in the Trading System: How
preferential agreements undermine free trade. We
now have once again a world marred by
discriminatory trade, much as we had in the 1930s,
from which all sensible men and women had
recoiled.
