Reflection: Noemi Vidales

Before this STEAM project, I had a basic understanding about my topic, which is cell structure
and function. Since this was one of the first topics we learned in the beginning of the year, I
forgot some of the functions and names of structures. This project has helped me remember past
material and has taught me new material I did not know.
When I thought about cell structures in real life, I had no clue of some examples there
could have been. I have learned that many of the things around us have the same function as cells
and its structures functions. For example, I learned that genetic code could be the same as a
formula chart, which would have never occurred to me. Not only did I get to learn about real life
examples, but also about current events in the science world. I found out that researchers have
created new nucleotides, X and Y, and that they have found evidence of punctuated equilibrium,
which I had never heard of, but now have a basic understanding of. Thanks to this project I have
learned about things I would have otherwise missed out on.
Not only has this project been a review of past knowledge, but it has also been a learning
experience. I have learned about new discoveries and real world analogies. This project has
strengthened my knowledge and I hope to have more like this in the future.
