Smoke Detectors
 Smoke detector placement:
› One on each floor.
› One near each sleeping room.
 Smoke detector batteries:
› Checked once a month.
› Changed once a year.
Fire Prevention
 Things that start fires:
› Clothes too close to heaters, candles, irons, dryers or
lamps
› Candles or cigarettes that burn unattended.
› Outlets with too many things plugged in.
› Gases or chemicals near heat sources.
› Power cords pinched, folded, or bent.
› Electronics near water.
What to do in a fire:
 Leave the house.
 Do not go looking for parents, pets, siblings, or
favorite toys.
 Never go back into the house.
 Call 911
What to do if you are on fire:
 STOP
› Don’t run, this will fuel the fire.

 DROP
› Lay down on the ground once you are clear of the fire.

 ROLL
 Roll back and forth on the ground until the fire has gone
out.
