When King Rorik and Queen Morgana reigned over Fair Calontir, Lord Demetrius and I, as the active

Byzantines in the Kingdom, were well known for our brightly colored clothing. My favorite was an
orange undertunic and green overtunic. It worked better when I wore a Falcon Tabard of purple and
gold, getting a well blended mlange of colors. But Demetrius outdid me. Chartreuse and turquoise,
canary and scarlet, dripping with gems and pearls, he made me feel drab.
When Liliestide came, there was a Great Court. Many were the Peers, Nobles and Commons honored
that day for their works and service. Then, the Herald, Voice of the Crown, took a melancholy tone to
command myself and Demetrius before Our Dread Sovereign.
Rorik, by right of Arms King, spoke thusly:
Gentlemen, I grow old, and my eyes weaken. Yet your clothing is strong enough to give them offense.
Thus I declare this, which shall have force of law within the Falcon Lands of Calontir:
Andrixos, Demetrius, from this point forward, all of your garb shall be of earth tones.
Thunderous was the laughter and applause of the populace, yet I took a pose of contemplation. I
consulted quietly with my conspirator against color theory. I responded thusly:
Well known is Your wisdom, Good King Rorik, and obedient are We to Your Word spoken as Law. By
Your Words, all of our garb is of earth tones. That would include the turquoise worn now by Demetrius
and the orange with which I adorn myself, as well as all clothing we don in the future, is by Royal
Command, to be judged as earth toned. We thank Your Majesty for the Royal Protection which Your
Words have given us.
With that, we were entrusted into the custody of the Royal Disciplinarian.
Demetrius, you added so much brightness to our lives. And the clothes were the least of it.
