Mr. Schumacher Explain interval training. Interval training is a type of training that involves short periods of work with rest in between. The rest is usually a lower-intensity exercise, and this type of training is meant to help with cardiovascular strength. An example could be sprinting a short distance, then walking back to the start and doing it again. Explain repeat training. Repeat training is a type of training that involves running a set distance at a set pace, and having a certain amount of rest in between. Repeat pace is faster than interval pace, and is meant to have longer periods of rest and more intense periods of work. Explain threshold/tempo training. Threshold, or tempo training, is training that is usually for a longer distance than either interval or repeat, but is slower than either. It is usually run at a pace closer to a race pace; for example, in training for a 5k, you would possibly run three miles at around the same pace as a race would be. Design an interval, repeat, and threshold workout for yourself. o Interval Workout: 4 times 800m at 4:58min with 400m jog between each o Repeat Workout: 8 times 400m at 1:53min with 200m jog between each interval and 1 minute break per set of 2x 400m running + 2x 200m jogging o Threshold Workout: 2 times one mile at 8:42min with one 200m jog between them.
