Change of Grease Type for Mill motor @ Horizontal unit

Case studies:

Dimension of bearing type NU230M from FAG website. The dimension is

1. Bearing outer diameter, mm = 270
2. Bearing inner diameter ,mm = 150

From data above, the mean diameter for the bearing is 210 mm.

Calculating the speed index value = rotating speed (rpm) x mean bearing diameter =
975 x 210 = 204,750

Using the speed index value, we can estimate the suitable base oil viscosity using the
table as per below:

The value above falls in the range of viscosity 160 cSt and above (at 40 degC).

This would mean that the current viscosity is not sufficient to withstand the load
because it is only 100 cSt at 40 degC. (Both Alvania RL and Stamina RL are 100 cSt at
40 degC).

More suitable grease is the one that has base oil viscosity of 220 cSt at 40 degC and
our product that comes with that viscosity is Shell Stamina EP2.

Further Action:

Replace the existing grease (SHELL Alvania RL2) with SHELL Stamina EP2 for better
lubrication performance.

Note: This method is implemented in coal-fired power plant.
