Yesterday we read the story Too Many Tamales, where a little girl lost her mothers favorite ring. I wrote down all of the questions you wanted to ask on a chart and we are going to use the story to answer the questions today. Teacher will read through questions on the chart. Think about the question that you asked and while I am reading the story, listen closely so that you can answer your question.

We do (guided practice): Now we are going to keep reading and its going to be your turn to answer your questions using the book. Name of student asked question. We are going to answer this question together. Teacher will continue reading and stop at page where question is answered. Teacher and students will answer question using the story.
Teacher will finish reading the story. Now remember your question. We just reread the story Too Many Tamales. Now you are going to get the chance to answer your question using everything you heard in the story. I am going to give you a new post-it and you are going to write your answer to your question. I am going to set the timer for 5 minutes and I want you to write on your post-it 1. Your name, 2. Your answer to your question. Your name is next to your question on the easel. If you need help, raise a silent hand.
Teacher will do attention getting signal to get students attention. Pencils down and everyone is sitting in position 1 in 5-4-3-2-1-0. I am going to call three students to share. When you share you are going to read 1. Your question and 2. Your answer. I am going to cold call using our popsicle sticks. Teacher will choose three students to share out their partners answer.

We asked questions that were about the characters and events in the story. Tomorrow we are going to ask and answer questions about tricky words when we read. When I call your table, the table captain will collect the papers and put them in the completed work bin. Everyone else at the table is sitting in position 1. Teacher will call table numbers and table captains will turn in work. Stand in position 2, it is time for centers.
