ABSTRACT

This research work was conducted to study the antimicrobial activity and
morphological characteristics of actinomycetes that were previously isolated by
4-Microbiology students and were handed over by Asst. Prof. Michael C. Valdez,
Ph.D. A total of seven actinomycetes were subjected to three screening methods
against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella
pnuemoniae to study the antimicrobial activities of the said isolates. Among these
seven isolates, isolates A04, A05, A16, and A35 showed antimicrobial activity
against at least one test organisms in perpendicular streak method. In disc-
diffusion assay, isolate A16 showed broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity while in
well-diffusion assay, isolates A5 and A35 showed broad-spectrum activity.
