Welcome to the 4th Editon of Silicon Indias Top 100 Engineering Colleges, 2013. It is evident that IITs,
NITs and few other premier engineering colleges alone cannot churn out enough engineers to meet
this need and it is here the other engineering colleges, private and public, play their role. But with
new technology insttutes mushrooming in every nook and corner of the country, a dilemma about the
quality of educaton arises for both IT organizatons who are looking for good engineers and students
who want to pursue a career in this industry. We at SiliconIndia with our 15 years of media expertse
and expose to IT and related technology space, understand that despite the infrastructure, faculty,
fee structure and other criteria, the sole parameter of judging a college's quality is the performance
of its graduates in the industry, which in turn can be measured by the pay package commanded by
them. Thus, this list is entrely based on a single parameter -CTC of a graduate afer fve years of work
experience.
Methodology:
To rank the best engineering colleges, a perceptual study was conducted among HR managers,
Recruitment frms and job boards. The companies/insttutes were chosen carefully to ensure that the
HR managers/professionals interviewed were involved with recruitment and had a fair idea about the
market. Over 3000 engineers and Computer professionals who graduated in the year 2008 and did not
pursue any other course/program a rewards were interviewed across the six metros-Delhi, Mumbai,
Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai Afer an exhaustve research and analysis, we fnally came
up with a list of top 100 engineering insttutes (govt/private) in three streams - Computer Science,
Electronics and Communicaton and Mechanical Engineering. Apart from this we also formed a list top
10 insttutes across India in each zone and Top Emerging Colleges in India and Top Private University in
India for Engineering. This report also covers Best 10 M. Tech. Colleges.
We hope this initatve proves to a benefcial one for you!

Nano Science key to green fuel
When the worlds focus is on green
fuel and reducton of polluton,
nano science can play a major
role in achieving this goal, a noted
researcher said today.
India has 50 per cent shortall
in fuel and catalysis can play a role
here as there are several material
including forest products which
can generate fuel like bio-diesel,
Prof. Ajay K. Dalai of Canadas
Saskatchewan University said while
addressing a two-day Natonal
Conference on Nano-Materials as
Catalysts at the SOA University
which began here on Friday.
The Canadian government, he
said, was investng one billion dollars
in creatng and boostng material
research actvites in his University
as diferent schools were involved in
mult-disciplinary research as it was
linked to societal beneft.
The Conference has been
organized by the Department
of Chemistry of the Insttute of
Technical Educaton and Research
(ITER), the faculty of engineering of
the University.
Speakers at the conference said

IITian resign to design lab in
suitcase.
Amit Bhatnagar, an alumnus of
IIT-Roorkee who quit a plush job
in Hollywood's famed Universal
Studios, has designed a portable
biochemistry laboraotry, which
comes packed in a suitcase and
can perform 23 crucial medical
tests including for kidney, liver,
heart, anaemia, diabetes and
arthrits.
The portable lab, which could
prove a boon to people staying
in remote areas that have litle
access to diagnostcs which results
in several diseases remaining
undetected.
It has been designed to perform
23 vital blood tests for kidney,
liver, heart, anaemia, diabetes
and arthrits accurately, cost-
efectvely and tmely.
Google signs MoU with AP Govt.
to train Engineering students.
Google has recently signed a
Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh
government to train engineering
students of Jawahar Knowledge
Centres (JKC) in latest technologies
like mobile and cloud computng.
Google will also train the trainers/
mentors of AP Society for
Knowledge Networks (APSFKNW)
and provide required sofware,
services and training material free
of cost, said a statement from the
ofce of Minister for Informaton
Technology.

Human resource development
minister M.M. Pallam Raju has
informed reporters that the
All India Council for Technical
Educaton (AICTE) would
allow more technical courses
including engineering through
correspondence i.e. distance
learning mode, as long as the
laboratory work for these courses
is conducted through face-to-face
sessions.
So this provision for allowing
studying engineering through
correspondence comes with a
clause: "Only those students
who have at least one regular
classroom diploma or degree and
with some work experience are
eligible to apply for these distance
technical educaton degrees.
