1. a) What are the various controls used for machines, also explain the merits and
limits of hydraulic controls?
b) What are the various components used in hydraulic circuit and explain about
reservoir? [12]

2. a) What are the various factors to be considered in the selection of hydraulic pump
and explain the working of screw pump?
b) What is the need of flow control valve and illustrate the working of pressure
compensated flow control valve? [12]

3. a) Differentiate with sketches the function and characteristics of closed centre and
open centre direction control valve.
b) What are the reasons for cylinder wear and mention various factors to be
considered in reducing the wear? [12]

4. a) How does integral reservoir differ from normal hydraulic reservoir?
b) What are the functions of magnetic trapper, Diffuser, level indicator, air-breather?
[12]

5. a) Classify various types of seals used as per ISO norms and explain various
materials used in practice for seals.
b) Sketch meter-in and meter-out circuits used in practice and mention their
principles of working. [12]

6. a) Sketch and explain pneumatic circuit used in hand tools like pneumatic hammer
and drill.
b) Sketch the pneumatic circuit for speed control of double acting cylinder and
mention the need of various elements used. [12]

7. a) How are the electro-hydraulic and electro-pneumatic systems designed for
particular applications.
b) How can the pump cavitation, pump alignment and pump discharge be checked
and rectified? [12]
