Introduction

1. The Border Gateway Protocol(BGP) is an inter autonomous system routing protocol. Autonomous system is a
network or group of networks under a common aministration & with common routing policies.
2. BGP is used to exchange routing information for the internet & is the protoco used between Internet Service
Provider which are different Autonomous Systemes.
3. One of the most important characteristics of BGP is its flexibility . The protocol can connect together any
interwork autonomous system using an arbitary topology. The only requirement is that each autonomous
system have at least one router that is usable to run BGP & that his router connect to atleast one other
autonomous system BGP router. When a pair of autonomous system afres to exchange rouinf information , each
must designate a router that will speak BGP on its behalf , the two routers are said to become BGP pers of one
another. A router speaking BGP usually a machine , which is near to the edge autonomous system is selected for
this.

The exchange of route information between BGP devices that each router can determine efficient routes to each of the
networks on an IP internetwork.Broader aspect ,BGP peers perform thre basic functions.

1. Initial peer acquisition & authentiction stablish a TCP connection message that gurantees both side have agreed
to communicate .
2. Function primarily focus on snding of negative or positive reachibility information thiss step of major concern.
3. Fnction provides ongoing verificatin that the peers & ht network connection between them are functioning
correctly.
