A 200 Mi l l i on Year Ol d Tyrannosaurus Rex Egg has Hatched at The Ameri can Museum of Natural Hi story; Bri ngi ng an Exti nct Speci es Back to Li fe
New York, NY- The American Museum of Natural History is welcoming the birth of a previously extinct species; the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The 200 million year old egg has hatched today, giving birth to a baby Female Tyrannosaurus Rex. The egg was held in a preservation chamber before the egg was ready to hatch.
Scientists at The American Museum of Natural History have made breakthroughs in science and technology in order to make this happen. Scientists used specific and complicated genetic manipulation processes, by extracting dinosaur DNA, and essentially cloning the dinosaur to make an egg. The scientists had obtained the dinosaur DNA from 200 million year old mosquitos, which had been carrying the DNA with them because of the blood that they sucked out of the dinosaurs. By a rare chance, the mosquitos were caught in tree sap, which hardened and preserved the mosquitos in a rock like form with the DNA inside them, and then were dug up by our scientists.
The American Museum of Natural History takes great pride in making this discovery; allowing man and dinosaur to walk the planet together for the first time. The American Museum of Natural History has plans to sell this egg to an independent investor, who will allow people to experience these creatures for themselves in a theme park like setting.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex will be available for viewing to the public and scientists on Saturday March 15, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. For questions or concerns regarding this discovery, please contact Michael Neglia at Mneglia@amnh.org
