How To Avail HEC Scholarships

All scholarships are offered through advertisement in local newspapers.


HEC offers scholarships for MS leading to PhD for indigenous and overseas
HEC only offers undergraduate scholarships for FATA/Balochistan & Need Based for needy students
Partial support for PhD students studying in the final year of PhD in a foreign country is also available.
Currently Advertised Scholarship
Indigenous 5000 PhD fellowship program is open for new induction of scholars. The deadline for the submission of application is
April 16, 2011.
Foreign Funded Scholarships will be advertised round the year.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidate should have a degree with minimum 16 years of education
and no 3rd Division or Grade D in his/her career.
Must not be availing any other scholarship simultaneously.
Maximum age on closing date of application is 35 years, except for
people working on regular basis in public sector whose maximum
age is 40 years.
The Scholar will have to be a full-time student to avail the scholarship.
Those who are employed have to arrange study leave for the full
duration of the program.
Scholars must qualify the local GRE (general) type test held by NTS
(50% Marks).
Must be conducting studies under the supervision of an HEC
Approved PhD supervisor.

Submission of online application/hard copy of application and
documents send to concern Project Director of the scheme.
Documents required with Application:
1. Photocopies of all educational testimonials
2. Degrees of Bachelors & Masters Degrees attested by HEC
3. Photocopy of CNIC
4. Copy of GAT (General) score result card
5. In-Service (only for Government employees) candidates need to
apply through proper channels with assurance from their
employer that if scholarship will be awarded, they will be released
immediately. Advance copies will be accepted however NOC
from the organization must be provided.
6. Original Deposit Slip of Rs.300/- as Application Processing fee in
favor of HEC can be deposited at any branch of the Habib Bank
Limited in Pakistan. Remittance application can be downloaded
from HEC website www.hec.gov.pk/payment.
7. HEC reserved the right for any change.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Pakistani/AJK Nationals.
2. Candidates must have a minimum of sixteen years of
education or equivalent with a first division or 2.5/4 CGPA or
3.5/5 scores whichever is applicable.
3. A maximum of two second-division passes throughout the
academic career prior to the final degree (refer to Clause
No. 2.)
4. Not less than 50% marks throughout the academic career.
5. Maximum age 35 years at the time of submission of
application.
6. Candidates who already hold any other HEC scholarship
offer are not eligible to apply.

Partial Support for PhD Studies Abroad
Provision of Higher Education Opportunities for
Students of Balochistan & FATA
HEC provides partial financial support to Pakistani
students who are in the final stages of their PhD studies
abroad.
Foundation Course for Undergraduate Program
i. Applications for foundation course will be invited
by the HEC through advertisement in leading
newspapers and on HEC website.
ii. Selection for foundation course will be made
through NTS test.
iii. Selected students will attend 4-6 week foundation
courses arranged by HEC.

Eligibility Criteria
i. Pakistani nationals studying abroad (in accredited
universities/institutions) under PhD program must hold a
valid Pakistani passport / appropriate visa (relevant pages
along with visa endorsement be attached with the
application)
ii. Applicant, if faculty member in public sector university or
degree awarding institution of Pakistan, must apply through
his/her parent institution (through VC or Rector or Head of
the institution)
iii. Pakistani students pursuing their PhD studies abroad at final
stage(s) may (also) apply provided each applicant submits a
Surety Bond containing a commitment endorsed by a
Guarantor living in Pakistan that the applicant after
completion of his/her PhD studies is bound to come back and
serve the country at least for 2 years.
How to apply
i. Attested photocopies of all academics documents
including degrees, certificates, and transcripts.
ii. Detail CV, attested photocopies of National ID Card
and Pakistani Passport showing valid visa.
iii. Supporting letter from the university where the student
is enrolled.
iv. Supporting /forwarding letter with sure bond from
parent public sector organization / University in
Pakistan.
v. Letter from the host university account section with full
financial details.
vi. Surety bond with HEC for 2 years. (Non faculty/
Pakistani citizens).

Financial Support
The maximum US $ 15,000/- (only once), which will cover
tuition fee, research or study related dues/fees or living
allowances or combination of all.
All due payments will be made to university/institution
whereas living allowance to the applicant.
The program remains open the whole year and applications
are received on roll on basis. Quarterly meetings are held for
selection of applicants for award of fellowship. The further

Award of Scholarship for Undergraduate and
Postgraduate Program
Applications for award of scholarship will be invited
through advertisement in leading newspapers and on
HEC website.
NTS test will be arranged for the award of scholarships.
The students who have not attended foundation course
will also be allowed to appear in NTS test.
Blend of NTS test scores and Board Result will be basis
of selection for award of scholarships. Criteria for
selection includes
For Undergraduate program = 20% SSC+ 30%
HSSC+ 50% NTS Score
For Postgraduate program= 20% SSC+ 20% HSSC+
20% BA/BSc+ 40% NTS Score
The selection of the Scholarship Awardees is finalized by the
Project Steering Committee (PSC) based on above mentioned
merit formula; observing district/FR/Agency quota

program is as under:
For Undergraduate Program:
Age: Maximum 22 years.
Domicile: Balochistan or FATA.
Academic Qualification: Intermediate
(F.A/F.Sc/I.Com/A-Level or equivalent) with minimum
60 % marks.
For Postgraduate Program:
Domicile: Balochistan or FATA
Academic Qualification: Bachelor (B.A/B.Sc or equivalent in
any discipline) with minimum 45% marks.

Foreign funded scholarships
These scholarships are offered from time to time by different
countries, organizations/institutions and agencies. Funds are
provide partially which include tuition fee, stipend, and travel
