Poverty is defined as the lack of the minimum


food and shelter necessary for maintaining
life.
Poverty means------lifelong barriers and
troubles are passed on from one generation to
the next

8. Overpopulation and/or High growth rate of population

10. Social Factors (Physical/mental disability, theft, drug abuse, war, high taxation)
11. Lack of land resources

13. Over dependence on agriculture
14. Unemployment / Employment abuse

Effects
1. Many infants born into poverty have a low birth weight,
which is associated with many preventable mental and
physical disabilities.
2. They are more likely to suffer chronic illness during childhood
or to have a disability.
3. Children raised in poverty tend to miss school more often
because of illness.
4. In some circumstances, sometimes the children must work to
provide an income for their family.
5. Crippling accidents as a result of unsafe work environments
6. Poor housinga long-lasting cause of diseases
7. Water and food related diseases that occur simply because
the poor cannot afford safe foods
8. poverty is a major cause of social tensions and threatens to
divide a nation-------lead to increased number of riots and
