The Definition of Procrastination
Procrastination is the action of leaving things for later. If youve ever had something to
do but you insist that youll have more time to do it later, you have procrastinated. In my case,
ever since I started university, Ive become a total procrastinator. When I was in high school, I
used to start homework and school projects as soon as I got home the same day they were
assigned, and after I was done I would do other things. Now, when I get home early from
university and have work to do, I take my time in walking to my room, opening my bag, taking
my books out, get a glass of water, and do anything to consume as much time as possible before
actually sitting down and start working. Once I finally decide to open my book bag and grab my
notebook to start studying for a test, for example, I purposely get distracted by making to-do
lists, organizing my bag, stapling papers of other homework Ive finished before, highlighting
the title of the chapter thats written in a page of my notebook, and other things that would
usually consume little time or that arent really necessary. Procrastination is sometimes
considered as laziness or vagrancy, but I dont think it is because by procrastinating the work
will be done sooner or later, and a lazy or vagrant person wont necessarily put much effort in
finishing their duty.
