Test bench solulutions to measure
natural frequencies of brake discs
Task

Brake discs provide a smooth surface against which brake pads
are forced. Calipers provide the housing for hydraulic pistons that
force the brake pads on the disc or drum.
All parts need to be tuned / harmonized with respect to the vibration
(natural frequencies, eigenfrequencies) of the complete brake in
order to avoid NVH. Requirements for brake components like brake
discs are defined in the EKB 2002 Technical Standard by the Euro-
pean Brake Noise Experts Group, to which OEMs and component
manufacturers have to adhere.
RTE has developed methods and different test benches for lab and
production (see pictures of solutions in the right column):
Audit testing of low volumes / random testing
Production integrated test bench (manual part handling)
100 % inline testing (automatic part handling)
