Republic Act No. 9163

An act establishing the National Service Training Program (NSTP) for tertiary level
students, amending for the purpose, Republic Act No. 7077 and Presidential Decree No.
1706, and for other purposes.

• CWTS- it refers to the programs and activities contributory to the general welfare
and the betterment of life for the members of the community.

Its objective is to help those who are in need of help in education, entrepreneurship,
safety, recreation, morality of a citizen and maintenance of the cleanliness of our
environment.

Background of the community profile (Profile of the target area/Project area)

• Bagong Silangan is one of the Slum Areas here in Quezon City, houses sit really
close to each other. This place became the relocation site of the payatas estate and
mow known as bagong silangan.
II. Main Body

• Bagong Silangan is one of the most Highly affected areas here in Quezon City,
the houses were almost wiped out because of the flood .

• Because of the continuous rain caused by typhoon “ONDOY” and the releasing of
Dam waters results to floods everywhere, one of the most highly affected areas here
in QC is Bagong Silangan, houses were filled with muddy waters up to their house
roofs, it was like a sea in there, according to those living in bagong silangan that
when they were brought up to the Multi-Purpose Hall in brookside, the only thing that
you can see is the top of the cross of the Church.

Project Implementation:

• A Clean-Up-Drive was collaborated to our school as a requirement for the NSTP1

students. Students from the different Branches of Quezon City Polytechnic University
(QCPU)

a. QCPU San Bartolome

b. QCPU Batasan, and

c. QCPU San Francisco

Namely, were assigned to different areas. To somehow help those living in affected areas
clean their place, before diseases caused by the Garbage infect those living there.
III. Personal Insights

• Reflection on the Activity

- The people weren’t careful of their surroundings, and when the time came that
Mother Nature fights back, there is nothing we could do. That’s why as early as
possible we have to take care of our environment before it’s too late.

• Personal Findings

- The place is very dirty, some people weren’t thankful at all that we cleaned
their place, some were grumpy. Also, garbage were seen everywhere, you can also
see that the people there just throw their garbage anywhere they want (candy
wrappers, diapers, cans, etc.)

• What are the strengths and weaknesses of the activity

- The good thing about cleaning with your friends is that we all worked together
as a team, though we felt really tired and disgusted to the awful smell of the garbage,
we really had so much fun, seeing those people who were thankful enough that we’ve
cleaned their place.

- Those who were less disciplined were just standing at one corner watching
those who were busy cleaning, and if they see a faculty staff approaching them
immediately grab a rake/broom and pretend that they were cleaning even though
they’re not.

• The skills that has to be acquired in order to accomplish this activity are:
perseverance to finish the job, patience in everything, simplicity, tactical and
leadership skills in handling those who weren’t paying much attention to what we are
doing.
• Recommendations/Suggestions

- That we have to pay attention to what we are doing/cleaning before we attune to

our other businesses like texting and chit-chatting with your buddies.

IV. GROUP RECOMMENDATION AND CONCLUSION

- We all have to work together and disregard those who were selfish, we also need
to have new equipments for cleaning purposes.
