A BASKETBALL TEAM

What is a basketball team? In my own understanding, a team is made up of a group of
people that are joined together with a common purpose. As part of the team, members need to
learn how to help one another, help other team members realize their true potential, and create an
environment that allows everyone to go beyond his or her limitations. Since I was a little kid, I
learned a little bit of the game of Basketball. My dad, who is a player and a big fan of the game,
explained to me that that Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players on a court. He
taught me that the objective of the game is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches in diameter
and 10 feet high, mounted to a backboard at each end. Basketball is one of the world's most
popular and widely viewed sports. When I asked him, about who invented the game of
Basketball, he sat down with me and told me that in early December 1891, a Canadian, named
Dr. James Naismith, who was a physical education professor and instructor at the International
Young Men's Christian Association Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts created the
game of Basketball. He was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day, when he
visualized a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness
during the long New England winters. Today, Basketball is one of the most popular games
around the world. As to what is my favorite team? The answer is the Los Angeles Lakers. The
Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, and have won 16 NBA
championships, their last being in 2010.
