help them solve the problem or write how you solved it.

Use basic addition and subtraction facts to solve problems with larger numbers.
Course Title: EDM2 Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers
Module 2: Extensions of addition and subtraction facts
Overview
In this assignment, you will practice basic addition and subtraction facts to help solve more
complex problems. You will use basic facts to add and subtract multiples of 10 and 100 and to
solve fact extension problems.
Instructions
1. Using Basic Facts to Solve Fact Extensions: Turn to page 32 in your Everyday Math
Journal and read the directions at the top. Your first step is to choose a unit and write it in
the unit box. The unit can be anything that you can measure. Next, complete the top
section of the page using basic math facts. After you complete the top part of the page
look for a common pattern between the addends and products. Keep working on the
remaining top half of the page looking for patterns. Next, move onto number 7 and
number 8, on these problems you need to try to solve the change diagram without a
calculator first. Look under the enter column first and think about how you could change
that number to the number under the change to column. Once you have completed both
problems get your calculator out and check your work. The final step in completing this
assignment is to answer the question at the bottom of the page. Always check your work!

Submitting
To submit your assignment to your instructor, save your MS Word file as a DOC/DOCX file and
name in the following manner: Using basic Facts to Solve Fact Extensions -First and last name.
Submit your finished work to the assignment 2 link in the Submissions area of Moodle before
11:59 p.m. U.S. EST/EDT on the last day of this module.
