James Wawrzewski on Lymphoma and Lymphomathon

Walks

A form of blood cancer, lymphoma affects white blood cells. In individuals
with the disorder, the white blood cells behave oddly and fail to protect the
body from infection. Although doctors recognize many types of lymphoma,
the two main categories are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin
lymphoma. The former consists of only 6 subsets, while more than 61
forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma can be identified.

Supported by the Lymphoma Research Foundation, Lymphomathon Walks
raise awareness about lymphoma. Started in 2003, these events feature
survivors, friends, caregivers, and family members walking a 5K to obtain
funds for research and to spread information about the condition. Held
across the country, Lymphomathon Walks have garnered nearly $11.7
million since its inception. Today, almost 20 cities host their own
Lymphomathon Walks, and others can find out how to plan their own event
at www.lymphoma.org.
