&' NTRODUCTON
The civi( engineering science students are re)uired to undergo a
com1rehensive Summer Training Program -ith a re1utab(e and s1ecia(i.ed
industria( organi.ation in or outside the 4ingdom of Saudi "rabia re(evant to his
major area of interest in engineering ana(5sis6 design6 or construction. The
1ur1ose of this summer training is to increase the students7 1ractica( e%1erience
and to enhance their career abi(ities. "(so to dee1en their civi( engineering
8no-(edge ac)uired during their academic 5ears through this in the fie(d 1ractica(
e%1erience in a11(ied industria( 1rojects. In addition6 such a 1rogram enhances the
re(ationshi1 bet-een the civi( engineering de1artment at 429P: and the
governmenta( and 1rivate industria( firms. It a(so 1rovides the business and
industr5 -ith -e((;trained 1rofessiona(s.
The student is e%1ected to s1end a significant 1ortion of the summer training
1eriod6 de1ending on the activities of the training organi.ation and the student7s
fie(d6 in the fo((o-ing areas<
; Orientation 1eriod covering the organi.ation6 its activities6 o1erations6
etc.
; Safet5 regu(ations and 1rocedures
; On the job 1ractica( training in an5 fie(d of civi( engineering that dea(s
-ith 1(anning6 designing6 construction6 and maintaining 1ub(ic and
1rivate faci(ities such as bui(dings6 tunne(s6 bridges6 trans1ortation
s5stems6 -ater and se-age treatment 1(ants6 etc.
The student is e%1ected to s1end his entire summer training 1eriod -ith the
training organi.ation abiding b5 its regu(ations (i8e other em1(o5ees. During his
summer training 1eriod the student is re)uired to fi(( his ,ee8(5 Progress 'e1ort
about his training activities and submit it -ee8(5 to his su1ervisor in the training
organi.ation for revie- and a11rova(. The student is a(so re)uired to -rite a
forma( -ritten Summer Training 'e1ort in accordance -ith Section 14 of this
document.
In order to 8no- the actua( 1erformance of the student during the training 1eriod6
the number of da5s he s1ent on training6 the number of absences and the number of
times he came (ate to -or86 a Summer Training $va(uation 2orm is re)uested from
the training organi.ation to be for-arded to the Summer Training Program Office6

The overa(( objective of the summer training is to e%1ose the student to the -or8
environment in the fie(d of civi( engineering. In 1articu(ar6 the summer training

*' DURATON OF T+E $UMMER TRANN# PRO#RAM
The )ua(if5ing student shou(d s1end at (east eight -ee8s in a governmenta(
organi.ation6 a re1utab(e industria( firm6 or a research center that conducts and>or
is invo(ved -ith civi( engineering activities.
,' $UMMER TRANN# COORDNATOR
The summer training coordinator is a civi( engineering facu(t5 member assigned
b5 the hairman of the de1artment.
The main duties of the coordinator are as fo((o-s<
?i= nominating the students e(igib(e for the summer training 1rogram
?ii= receiving the eva(uation re1orts from the em1(o5er
?iii= assigning facu(t5 advisor to each student
?iv= ensuring the submission on time of a draft re1ort indicating the student7s
major -ee8(5 activities in the job. This draft re1ort must be signed b5 the
student7s on;the;job su1ervisor.
?v= receiving the students7 fina( grades from their advisors and re1ort them to
the registrar.

-' $UMMER TRANN# AD!$OR
The summer training advisor is a civi( engineering facu(t5 member -ith the
e%1ertise in the subject of the student summer training assignment and is assigned
b5 the de1artment summer training coordinator in consu(tation -ith the student.
The main ro(e of the advisor is to guide the student to -rite and com1i(e his
summer training fina( re1ort in a 1rofessiona( format. It is e%1ected that the
advisor -i(( have fre)uent meetings -ith his advisee. The advisor shou(d ensure
that the student submits and 1resents his fina( re1ort on or before the end of the
tenth -ee8 of the first ?fa((= semester.
.' $UMMER TRANN# E/AMNN# COMMTTEE
The e%amining committee -i(( consist of three facu(t5 members -ith the summer
training advisor as a chairman and t-o other facu(t5 members se(ected b5 the
student in consu(tation -ith his summer training advisor. The e%amining
committee -i(( eva(uate the student based on the four items (isted in Section 14 of
this document. The advisor -i(( re1ort the fina( grade ?P"SS>2"I@= to the
summer training coordinator. The e%amining committee shou(d ta8e into
consideration an5 de(a5 b5 the student in submitting an5 of the re)uired documents
and ma5 1ena(i.e the student for that de(a5.
0' ACADEMC RE#U"ATON$ AND RE1UREMENT$
1. The students are res1onsib(e for 8no-ing and fo((o-ing the academic ru(es
and regu(ations6 inc(uding re)uirements for graduation. 2acu(t5 advisors
-i(( assist students in 1(anning their academic 1rogram.
2. The student shou(d not be a((o-ed to register for an5 course?s= during his
summer training 1eriod.
3. The student must com1(ete the summer training -or8 before his (ast
semester in the universit5.
4. To )ua(if5 for assignment of summer training6 the student shou(d fu(fi(( the
fo((o-ing e(igibi(it5 re)uirements<
?i= com1(ete not (ess than &0 credit hours ?inc(uding the credit hours
e%1ected to be com1(eted at the end of the semester 1rior to the

2' RE#$TRATON PROCEDURE$
1. 'egistration for summer training usua((5 starts on the (ast da5 for dro11ing
courses -ithout 1ermanent record and continues unti( the (ast da5 for
dro11ing courses -ith a grade of A,A of the second semester of the
academic 5ear.
2. The e(igib(e student shou(d com1(ete and submit the summer training
registration form to the civi( engineering summer training 1rogram
coordinator for de1artment a11rova(.
3. "11rova( forms shou(d be transmitted b5 the summer training coordinator
to the Student "ffairs training 1rogram office for further action.
4. The summer training 1rogram office at the Student "ffairs -i(( ma8e
necessar5 arrangement6 and send a(( the registration forms to the universit5
registrar.
3' 4T+DRA4A" PROCEDURE
1. "fter the registration dead(ines6 dro11ing the summer training needs
a11rova( of the civi( engineering summer training coordinator. This
a11rova( -i(( be granted on(5 to students -ith (egitimate reasons b5
com1(eting the dro1out form and submitting it to the summer training
de1artment at the Student "ffairs -here it -i(( be 1rocessed and sent to the
registrar of the universit5.
2. " student ma5 be automatica((5 -ithdra-n from the summer training
-ithout being informed due to an5 of the fo((o-ing reasons<
?i= ,hen the student is subjected to dismissa( for academic and>or
disci1(inar5 reasons.
?ii= ,hen the student dro1s some credit hours during the semester
1receding the training 1eriod so that the tota( number of the earned
credit hours after this semester is (ess than &0 credit hours.
?iii= If the student dro1s one or more of the de1artment re)uired ?1re;
re)uisite= courses before starting his training as mentioned in Section
& of this document.

It is the res1onsibi(it5 of the summer training office at the Deanshi1 of Student
"ffairs to coordinate -ith the organi.ations -ithin and outside the 4ingdom to
create training o11ortunities for the nominated students. " student ma5 (oo8 for a

1. The training organi.ation is encouraged to uti(i.e the trainee in a job re(ated
to the fie(d of civi( engineering in design6 ana(5sis6 and construction and not
assign him to c(erica( and routine -or86 such as o1erator6 trans(ator6 etc.
2. The training organi.ation is re)uested to 1rovide the universit5 -ith a fi((ed
eva(uation form for each trainee at the end of the training 1eriod.
3. The training organi.ation shou(d a((o- the universit5 officia(s to visit the
trainee?s= as and -hen re)uired.

of the first semester.
2. "fter com1(etion of the summer training6 the student is re)uired to submit
the fo((o-ing materia(s to the summer training coordinator.

on;the;job su1ervisor sho-ing the major -or8 accom1(ished during
each -ee8. This shou(d be submitted during the first -ee8 of the
first semester fo((o-ing the training 1eriod.
