INTRODUCTION
Anaerobic digestion systems have
undergone modifications in the last two
decades, mainly as a result of the energy
crisis.
Major developments have been made
with regard to anaerobic metabolism,
physiological interactions among different
microbial species, effects of toxic
compounds and biomass accumulation.
UASB reactor is three-phase separator,
which enables the reactor to separate
gas, water and Sludge mixtures under
high turbulence conditions.
This allows for compact, cheaper
designs.
In this paper, the use of Neuro-fuzzy
inference system modeling is
investigated.
The experiment is carried out in a bench
scale Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket
reactor.
The experimental results obtained were
modeled with adaptive neuro fuzzy
inference system using four input
parameters and one output parameter.
UASB reactor consists of three main
parts: bottom, middle and top section
The top section is provided with Gas-
Liquid- Solid (GLS) phase separator.
The reactor is provided with a stirrer
composed of motor magnetic joint,
glass connector, stainless steel axis and
stirrer blades.
Temperature of the reactor was
maintained at 30C1 by water
circulation through thermostat.
ANFIS Architecture

There are two adaptive layers which are
shown as squares and the other three
layers are non-adaptive.
In this research, ANFIS is modeled with
back-propagation gradient descent
The ANFIS model is created by
considering flow, HRT, COD and VFA
as input parameters and biogas
generation as output parameter using
the ANFISEDIT tool of MATLAB
software.
The ANFIS architecture generated
in MATLAB
Conclusion

In this paper, ANFIS is applied to
model the parameters for the
treatment of tannery effluent using
UASB reactor.
identify the non linear relationship
between the various experimental
parameters.
The technique is validated by
replicative testing and had testing
error of 0.4697 for biogas generation .
