What youll need:
I hook 5.5 MM
Worsted Weight in appropriate colors for the hat you are
wanting to make
Tapestry needle for weaving in tails
Quite a few Stitch Markers if making the Basketball or Baseball
Ruler
Stitches Used:
SL ST: Slip Stitch - insert hook, pull up loop and through 1st loop
on hook.

SC: Single Crochet - insert hook into stitch, YO & pull up a loop,
pull through loops on hook.

HDC: Half-Double Crochet - YO, insert hook into stitch, YO & pull
up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

DC: Double Crochet - YO, insert hook into stitch, YO & pull up a
loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through remaining 2
loops on hook.

Hdc2tog: Half Double crochet 2 together-
YO, insert hook into stitch, YO & pull through. Insert hook into
next stitch, YO pull through, and YO pull through all 4 loops.
Notes: Always join with a SL ST to first stitch of round (this means you
will also be working your first stitches of each RND into the same
stitch you joined into).
Gauge: (Please check your gauge I crochet kind of tight)
Using I hook and HDC with Worsted Weight Yarn
8 stitches to 2 inches
To obtain gauge:
Make a chain a little over 2 inches. Do 1 HDC in 2
nd
CH from hook
and across. CH 1 turn and HDC across until your swatch is a little over
an inch tall. Then count how many stitches you have in 2 inches.
Adjust as needed to obtain my gauge above

Teens = (7.5-8" length) Adult Women = (8" length)
Men = (8-8.5 length)

Fold hat in half count 5 stitches towards the front

ROW 1. J oin with a SL ST CH 1, (Working towards the back) 1 HDC in
same ST, HDC in next 9 ST, CH 1 turn (10)

ROW 2-6: HDC2TOG, HDC 1 in each ST across (you will be left with 5
ST once youve completed ROW 6)

NOTE: Remember to pick up 3

loop created from HDC in previous
ROW so you arent left with textured lines**
Repeat on other side
Tie off and weave in your tails

Finishing Off: Use Red

J oin with SL ST and Red to the back of the hat

st

SC

RND 2: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, *1 SC in next* Repeat *-*, SL ST to 1
st
SC.
Tie off, and weave in your tail.

For Braids: (Optional)

I normally cut 38 strands 12 of each color, and put 6 of each color
in each braid.
Fold it in half twist the looped side and stick it in from outside to
inside. Draw the loose sides through what you have now made as a
loop and pull; braid and knot. Trim the ends so they are all the same
length

Red Threads: Do this in your Red with a needle and precut piece of
yarn about1yard long.

You will need Stitch Markers for this part of the hat (scrap pieces of
yarn will work). Lay flat on a surface (Be sure to have your knot
centered and in the back), and measure from the very center of the
Magic Circle on the hat each way

0-3; 3-6 Months: 1 Inch
6-24 Months: 1 Inches
3-10 Years or Teen-Adult: 2 Inches

Measure appropriate
length from center circle
going each way, and
mark it with your stitch
marker. Example 0-3
months measure 1 inch
insert a stitch marker, and
repeat on the other side
for a total of 2 inches.

Now from the outsides measuring in towards the center of the hat
make the same measurements on the front and the back of the hat.
You should at this point have 6 stitch markers in.

Optional: If you want you can now map out your approximate lines
with more stitch markers tracing from the bottom front stitch marker
to the top and to the bottom back. If you are good at winging it
then this may not be as important for you to do.

With Needle and Yarn begin in the back of the hat at 1 of your stitch
markers. Following your lines you have made make a series of Vs
about an inch apart. Once you have reached the front stitch
marker tie off, and repeat on the other side. Your Baseball hat is now
complete

Tie off, and weave in your tail.

For Braids: (Optional)

I normally cut 38 strands 12 of each color, and put 6 of each color
in each braid.
Fold it in half twist the looped side and stick it in from outside to
inside. Draw the loose sides through what you have now made as a
loop and pull; braid and knot. Trim the ends so they are all the same
length

Black Lines: You will use your Hook (same as what you used on the
hat) and Black Yarn

Fold hat in half with the knotted back to one side. This will give you
the center line. Mark all the way across with stitch markers as seen in
the below photo.

With your hook and Black yarn
make a slip knot and join to the
back of the hat. To do this take
your hook out of your loop, and
insert it from the outside to the
inside along the color change
of the hat. Grab your dropped
loop and pull to the outside of
the hat

With working yarn on the inside of the hat the whole time insert hook
along your crease that you have lined your stitch markers on. Grab
working yarn and pull up to the outside of the hat and bring through
the loop on your hook. This is creating a slip stitch and you will repeat
this process along the entire mapped out line you have created.
Once you reach the other side; cut your working yarn and draw
through your loop creating a slip knot. Weave your tails in.

Now fold hat in half the opposite way. Your line you just made should
be in the middle now. Use your stitch markers and map out this
crease. See photo below.

Repeat your Slip Stitch process following your new stitch markers. This
will create a + shape across the top of the hat. Tie off and weave in
both of your tails.

Lay flat on a surface (Be sure to have your knot centered and in the
back), and measure (length below) from the point where your +
meets each way

0-3; 3-6 Months: 1 Inch
6-24 Months: 1 Inches
3-10 Years or Teen-Adult: 2 Inches

Measure appropriate length from center cross where each line
meets going each way, and mark it with your stitch marker. Example
0-3 months measure 1 inch insert a stitch marker, and repeat on the
other side for a total of 2 inches.
Now from the outsides measuring in towards the center of the hat
make your measurements (length below) on the front and the back
of the hat.

0-3; 3-6 Months: 2 Inch
6-24 Months: 2 Inches
3-10 Years or Teen-Adult: 3 Inches

You should at this point have 6 stitch markers in. Take more stitch
markers and work your way to each point drawing out a line that
you will follow.

Starting in the back; repeat your Slip Stitch process for each of your 2
mapped out lines. Tie off and weave in all of your tails.

You should now be done with your Basketball Hat. Please let me
know if you have any questions while making this hat

should have 5 flat sides. Pull Ring tight and SL ST to 1

After making as many as youd like place wherever youd like on the

tails.

You should now be finished with your Soccer Hat. If you have any
questions please let me know. Thank you!
