• During his ~!eave of absence from the Universlty of Colorado at the pia lltecnl co' of Milano. Prof .. Saouma. performed tests Ion larqejolnteo concrete specimens subjected to reverse cyclic loading.

," Tests were performed by' Mr. Eric. Puntel as part of his lPhD thesis in theStructural Eng.ineeriing Laboratory of Polltscnico.

• Computational Enthusiasts are lrwited/challenqed to provide a numerical prediction for those tests.

• Results W~111 be compiledand presented at a forthcominq lnternational event

Two aiurnlnlum plates, cast tog€ther w~tih the concrete blocks, aria used to transfer the ~oad from the steel frame to the specimen.

The aluminium plates have 36, threaded holes: 12. to Ibol:t them to the stee~ frame and 3/16/2004 other 24 where th reeded ba rs lim mersed in concrete a re connected.

The interface has a roughness that was created lin order 'tos;:im u late rough joints (such as in dams).

The asperities on the surface have a period of about 40 m man d a hei'g hi of about 4 rnrn. The maximum 8g'gregate size of the concrete mix: Is 25mm.
