We hear voices but see nothing.
HARPER
NO!
LIAM
Just one date!
HARPER
I already said no!... Liam give me
my bag
LIAM
Go out with me!
HARPER
NO!
LIAM
this is a really nice bag
HARPER
Liam!
We hear struggling over the bag.
HARPER
(laughs) fine.
LIAM
Fine?
HARPER
Fine.
INT. BATHROOM
places a ring necklace around neck, we see a tear drop onto
it. crying girl getting ready(dressed formally in black)in a
mirror
HARPER
Its the big day, i had just hoped
i would be wearing white
Her mother appears behind her.
MOM
Honey, are you ready.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2.
HARPER
YES!
Turns around to look at her mom
HARPER
yes, just give me a minute.
MOM
Take your time.
the girl turns back to the mirror. And wipes the tears out
of her eyes.
HARPER
So, this is it? This is the forever
you promised? our life together?
we see the boy in the mirror.
LIAM
No.
The girl turns to her left but there is nobody there.
EXT. FIELD
Let us commend Liam to the mercy of God, for he was a son of
god(pastors voice drains out and)
LIAM
Try it.
HARPER
No i cant.

Just once!
We see harper and Liam sitting in a field (benedictine)
Harper is holding Liams guitar. Harper strums, it sounds
terrible. Liam laughs.
HARPER
Shut up!
Harper Pushes Liam. Liam laughs more.
HARPER
God your an idiot. You play.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 3.
LIAM
Play what?
HARPER
That song you said you were writing
for me.
LIAM
Its not finished, its not even
good!
HARPER
Shut up. Play
Liam starts playing (ill teach Liam the song)
EXT. GRAVEYARD
THE PRIESTS VOICE FADES IN
PRIEST
We commit this body to the ground,
earth to earth, ashes to ashes,
dust to dust.
We see harper stare at the casket as it is lowered into the
ground. Harper bends over and puts a red flower next to the
gravestone. We realize that this is a different day and the
funeral is over. Harper stands up and walks away from the
grave.
INT. HOUSE
Harper is sitting at a table with a bottle of whiskey next
to her. The cap is off and the bottle is half empty. Harper
looks from the table to the whiskey. We hear conversation.
DAD
We need to get her help.
MOM
She just lost her boyfriend, she
needs time to cope
Harper stands up and cracks the door where they are
fighting.
DAD
What she needs is a therapist, have
you heard her she keeps talking to
herself!
Harper grabs a scarf.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.
MOM
She just needs time.
DAD
It has been three weeks i think she
needs to get over it.
Harper slams the door shut. Mom and Dad look over.
EXT. STREET
Harper walks along the street. We hear conversation in her
head.
LIAM
Harper, im serious
HARPER
What do you mean you are serious?
LIAM
I mean, I love you, and i want to
be with you forever.
HARPER
But Liam... Im only 16, and you
only 17 for christ sake, what do
you mean get married... Thats
crazy!
LIAM
I know its unorthodox, but when you
know you know. Harper... can i ask
you a question?
HARPER
Of course
L
Do you love me.
HARPER
Liam.
LIAM
Harper!
HARPER
... Yes. Yes of course i love you.
LIAM
And will you love me tommorrow? And
the next day, and the next?
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 5.
HARPER
Yes! Liam i will always love you,
but marriage? It just seems too
fast.
LIAM
This isnt marriage. This is
engagement. This is a promise. A
promise that I will always be
yours, and you will have a ring to
prove it.
Liam pulls out the ring. Harper looks at the ring and then
takes it.
Back on the street we see harper looking at the ring.
HARPER
You promised.
Harper throws the ring at the field. and starts walking
away.
LIAM
Harper!
HARPER
And these voices inside my head. HE
IS DEAD. He is dead.
We see Liam standing behind harper.
LIAM
Harper! Im here
Harper turns around in shock then runs to him.
HARPER
Liam! I thought you were dead...
You were dead, I-I saw the body,
god who cares you are here!
Harper hugs Liam again.
INT. CAR
MOM
God where did she go.
DAD
She hasnt been out that long she
couldnt have gotten far.

EXT. FIELD
HARPER
I missed you. What was it like
being dead?
LIAM
I dont know. I was dead.
HARPER
Liam dont you ever leave again.
Loud car horn. Mom and dad are in the parking lot of the
field. They get out of the car and start running towards
her.
MOM
Harper what are you doing!?
HARPER
Mom you wont believe it, Liam is
ali-
Harper looks over and realizes that Liam isnt there.
INT. HOUSE
DAD
This needs to stop
We see dad Harper and mom all sitting in the living room.
HARPER
Dad i told you he was there
MOM
We talked to your doctor, he thinks
that you may have PTSD. You have
been going through a lot lately and
well, it is hard to handle all of
that on your own. He wants to put
you on Escitalopram
(es-sye-TAL-oh-pram)
HARPER
Mom i dont need drugs, im not
crazy.
DAD
Not crazy harper, depressed, It
will just take the edge off. Just
one a night and you will forget all
about... him.

INT. BEDROOM
Harper is sleeping, there are drugs on the bedside table. We
hear Liams voice
LIAM
Forever.
Harper suddenly wakes up. Looks around and sees no one. She
looks at her alarm clock. It is 1 A.M. She gets up and walks
out the door.
EXT. STREET
Harper walks up the fields and meets Liam there.
LIAM
Hey
Harper says nothing and sits down next to him. There is a
picnic blanket and a guitar on the ground.
HARPER
I talked to your mom Liam.
LIAM
And...?
Harper looks up at him
HARPER
She thinks you are dead. Liam,
everyone but me thinks you are
dead. And they say im crazy.
Seriously you are sitting right
there. What is wrong with them.
Liam stares at her for a second
LIAM
I finished your song.
Liam picks up the guitar and starts to play
(once again only Liam will know this part)
Halfway through the song the music continues playing but we
see this scene

EXT. ROOF
I want this on top of a roof because thats super cool but if
its not possible it could be somewhere else.
HARPER
If a tree falls in the forest does
it make a sound?
LIAM
Yes
HARPER
But you cant prove it! There is no
one there to hear it.
LIAM
The trees hear it.
HARPER
Trees arent people Liam
LIAM
That doesnt mean they are alive. A
tree means as much to another tree
as a person does to another person.
If a tree falls in a forest it does
make a sound. Because the tree
isnt alone, its never alone. There
is a whole forest of trees all
around it.
Harper looks from Liam to the sunset.
EXT. FIELD
The song finishes. We see harper cry as the song finishes.
We looks over to where Liam would be but he isnt there.
SCREEN FADES TO BLACK
EXT. GRAVEYARD
Harper walks over to the grave a places down a flower. She
stands up and starts to walk away then turns around and goes
back to the flower. She places her ring around the stem.
Harper walks away and the song fades back in but just
guitar.
