1.a) Explain how productivity can be increased with NC systems.
b) Explain the various methods of improving machine accuracy.

2.a) Discuss the various features of CNC.
b) One axis of an NC positioning system is driven by a stepping motor. The motor is
connected to a lead screw whose pitch is 4.0 mm, and the lead screw drives the
table. Control resolution for the table is specified as 0.015 mm. Determine:
i) The number of step angles required to achieve the specified control resolution,
ii) Size of each step angle in the motor, and
iii) Linear travel rate of the motor at a pulse frequency of 200 pulses per second.

3.a) Explain the terms pre-set, qualified, and indexable insert in the context of
CNC tooling.
b) Explain various steps in Computer Assisted Part Programming.

4. What is the basic difference between CNC and DNC systems? Discuss the merits
and demerits of CNC and DNC systems.

5. With the help of neat sketches explain the working principles and its operation of
the following:
a) Stereo-lithography
b) Fusion deposition modeling.

6. Write notes on:
i) Absolute and incremental positioning systems
ii) Types of DNC systems
iii) Laminated Object Manufacturing.

7.a) What is the necessity of a postprocessor? Explain the functions of a post
processor?
b) Discuss about the general structure of a post processor with a block diagram.

8. Explain the following:
i) Miscellaneous functions in programming
ii) Tool storage magazines
iii) Rapid tooling.
