I.Outline of Installation Procedures for 4036 System
When installing the machine and associated options as a system, follow the order shown on the upper.
Caution:
For the detailed installation procedures for each option, follow the instructions given in the corresponding
Installation Manual and perform the procedures correctly.

III.Removing the Machine
1. Open the shipping carton and remove the IU car-
ton and machine carton.
2. Pull out the handles.
3. Work with a helper. Holding onto the portions
shown in the illustration, remove the machine
while maintaining a level position.

IV.Removing Protective Tape, Packing and
Other Shipping Materials
1. Remove protective tape from different parts of the
machine.
2. Remove the packing bracket.
3. Remove the protective sheet.
4. Slide out the 1st drawer and remove protective
tape and packing materials from the inside of the
drawer.
5. Slide out the 2nd drawer and remove protective
tape from the inside of the drawer.

V.Installing the IU
1. Open the front door.
2. Pinch the IU release lever for Y and pull it down
forward.
3. Tilt the IU to the left and, in that condition, shake
it over a small stroke twice. Then, tilt the IU to the
right and, in that condition, shake it over a small
stroke twice.
Caution:
When holding the IU, be sure to hold onto the blue
label portion.
4. Keeping the IU in the level position, insert it all
the way as far as it will go.
Caution:
When inserting the IU, make sure that the leading
edge of the IU is aligned with the mounting posi-
tion label indicated on the machine.
Make sure that the IU is inserted all the way into
the machine.
5. Holding the IU (indicated by the arrow in the illus-
tration), pull out the PC Drum protective sheet.
6. Push the IU release lever all the way until a click
is heard.
7. Using the same procedure, install all IUs.

VI.Charging Toner and Installing the Filter
Caution:
Toner does not come with the machine. Purchase
toner bottles (of different colors) separately avail-
able.
1. Open the front door.
2. Remove the desiccant. (only the black toner bot-
tle)
3. Holding the toner bottle firmly, shake it well verti-
cally and horizontally to agitate toner.
4. Remove the protective tape and the protective
cap.
5. Swing the fixing lever downward.
6. Load the toner bottle in position.
(Make sure that the gear is on the rear side.)
7. Swing the fixing lever upward to fix the toner bot-
tle in position.
* Make sure that the fixing lever is positively swung
into position.
8. Using the same procedure, install the toner bot-
tles for other colors of toner.
9. Take out the filter and install it in position.
Caution:
The filter is packed in the box of a black toner bot-
tle.

VII.Connecting the Power Cord and
Mounting the Accessories
1. Connect the power cord.
2. Remove the screw shown in the illustration.
3. Fit the cord clamp furnished with the machine
over the power cord. Then, secure the cord
clamp using the screw that has just been
removed.
Caution:
This step may not be performed depending on the
applicable marketing area.
4. Plug the power cord into the power outlet.
5. Attach the cap A and B enclosed with the
machine.
6. Attach the connector cover enclosed with the
machine.
VIII.Installing the Users Guide Holder
1. Install the users guide holder.

IX.Adjusting Touch Panel
1. Turn on the Power Switch.
2. Call Touch Panel Adjust to the screen. (See the
service manual for how to show the function.)
3. Using a ballpoint or similar device, lightly touch
the center of the + markers at four places on the
Touch Panel in order.
(Any specific marker can be the first one.)
4. Touch END.
X.Loading the Test Copy Paper
1. Load the 1st drawer with A3 or Ledger paper.
2. Place the media types selection dial in the Plain
position.
XI.Setting Gradation Adjust
1. Check that A3 or Ledger paper is loaded in the
drawer.
2. Display the Tech. Rep. Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Tech. Rep.
Mode screen, see the service manual.)
3. Select Gradation Adjust.
4. Press the start key. A test pattern will then be pro-
duced on the A3 or Ledger paper.
5. Place the test pattern face down on the original
glass.
6. Place about ten sheets of A3 or Ledger paper on
the test pattern placed on the original glass.
Lower the original cover, if the machine is so
equipped.
7. Press the start key. The machine will start reading
the test pattern.

8. When the machine completes reading the test
pattern, the Gradation Adjust screen will reap-
pear.
9. Repeat steps from 4 through 7 to let the machine
read the test pattern three times.
10.Touch END.
11.Touch Fin. Time.
XII.Test Copy
1. Check that A3 or Ledger paper is loaded in the
drawer.
2. Ready a test chart.
3. Place the test chart face down on the original
glass.
4. Lower the original cover, if the machine is so
equipped.
5. Press the start key.
6. Check the halftone band portion of the test copy
produced for possible streaks or lines.
If they are apparent, take the necessary remedial
steps by following the troubleshooting procedure
contained in the service manual.

XIII.Date/Time Input
1. Select the Data & Time Setting function as fol-
lows: Utility Admin. Mode Admin. Set. 3/4
Data & Time Setting.
2. Select the item you want to set and press the
clear key.
3. Enter the data for the year, month, day, and time-
of-day from the 10-key pad.
4. Touch Enter.
5. Touch Fin. Time three times.
6. Display the Date/Time Input screen.
(For details of how to display the Date/Time Input
screen, see the service manual.)
7. Press the clear key.
8. Enter the data for the year, month, day, and time-
of-day from the 10-key pad.
9. Touch Entry.
10.Touch END.
XIV.Serial # Input
1. Display the Tech. Rep. Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Tech. Rep.
Mode screen, see the service manual.)
2. Select the Serial # Input function as follows:
System Input Serial # Input.
3. Making sure that Printer is selected on the
screen, enter the serial number of the printer from
the 10-key pad.
4. Following the same procedure, enter the serial
numbers of all other units.
5. Touch END.
6. Touch Fin. Time.
7. Turn OFF/ON the Power Switch.

XV.Unit Change
Caution:
This function allows the user to select the type of
message that will appear when the replacement
time arrives for each of the different units.
1. Display the Tech. Rep. Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Tech. Rep.
Mode screen, see the service manual.)
2. Select the Unit Change function as follows:
System Input Unit Change.
3. Select the appropriate message type for each
unit.
4. Touch END.
5. Touch Fin. Time.
XVI.List Output
Caution:
Perform List Output after all adjustments have
been made including those of options.
1. Load the 1st drawer with A4L or Letter L paper.
2. Display the Tech. Rep. Mode screen.
(For details of how to display the Tech. Rep.
Mode screen, see the service manual.)
3. Select List Output.
4. Select Image Processing.
5. Press the start key.
Then, lists of various kinds will be produced.
6. Touch END.
7. Touch Fin. Time.

2. Select the function to be used as follows:
Machine Adjust PRT Area Left Margin
3rd.
3. Measure width A on the test pattern produced to
check to see if it falls within the specified range.
Specifications: 3.0 1.0 mm
4. If the measured width falls outside the specified
range, adjust with M or L key and then make
the check again.

5. Display the Tech. Rep. Mode screen.

6. Select the function to be used as follows:

7. Measure width A on the test pattern produced to

Specifications: 3.0 1.0 mm
8. If the measured width falls outside the specified
range, adjust with M or L key and then make
the check again.

10.Select the function to be used as follows:

1st.
11.Measure width A on the backside of the test pat-
tern produced to check to see if it falls within the
specified range.
Specifications: 3.0 1.0 mm
12.If the measured width falls outside the specified
range, adjust with M or L key and then make
the check again.
13.Perform the same procedure for all paper feed
units.
XIX.Installing the Drawer Cover
1. If a paper source option is mounted, install the
Drawer Cover that comes with the machine using
the Mounting Screws that also come with the
machine.
