Session 1, Week 4 Weekl y Updat e: This week, students read the expository story So You Want to be President?. They have continued to work with new vocabulary words, comprehension strategies, and reading skills. They continued questioning while reading in a Q- Chart. Students have continued to practice their reading fluency, and I will be sending home fluency practice to continue over the summer.
Students can practice this by multiple readings of a passage, trying to improve on accuracy and expression, and they can time how many words they read in 1 minute (WPM). I am also sending home information about the progress made in Summer U, including their instructional reading levels (the level at which they would work at in school) and their fluency rate/words per minute (WPM). I included this information & the targets for the reading level and fluency for their upcoming grade levels in the fall to provide information about any goals to continue focusing on throughout the rest of the summer, and so this information can be carried on for the next school year. I hope that students continue to practice their choice reading over the summer! They can even continue with their independent learning contracts. Today is the last day of Summer U. Enjoy the rest of your summers!
Thanks! "Ms. Corine Wegley
